How To Master a Song Step By Step

Mastering your tracks can be a bit of a minefield and is often seen as the domain of the professional. However, if your tracks are just for demo purposes, a DJ set or even use on the net, you may want to tackle the job yourself. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to master a track quickly and easily.

Quantizing Audio in Logic 9

Logic Pro 9 introduced the “Flex Time” feature which is a set of tools for manipulating audio rhythm and timing data the way you would edit MIDI. I’m going to be covering Flex Time in detail and how you can use it in detail, but in this tutorial we’ll get our feet wet with some basic audio quantization.

Essential Keyboard Shortcuts

You can see all of Logic’s keyboard shortcuts in the Keyboard Manager. I’m listing them here because there are so many, you many have trouble figuring out which ones to memorize. The follow shortcuts are the ones that will really make working with your projects much quicker. Secondly, you can print this reference out and look at it as you use Logic — as far as I’m aware there’s no keyboard shortcut cheat sheet that comes with Logic.

Vocal Production in Logic Pro - Begginer

Involving vocals in your project brings with it a unique set of challenges. Lyrics must be intelligible, but the 'hard edges' of the sounds, the bits that make them clear, must not be too intrusive. Pitches must be in tune, in relation to the rest of the project, and yet retain those characteristics that distinguish humans from synthesizers, part of which is an indefinable inaccuracy of frequency. The performance should be dynamic, to convey expression, but in order to be balanced effectively with the other tracks in the project, these dynamics need to be controlled, the 'louds' not exceeding a set maximum and the 'quiets' still audible.

Trance Kick Drum with Compression/EQ

The average trance kick is just a 909 sample with different layers and processing that has been improved and changed over years by now. I really like to add compression from hell on a standard 909 kick and add different layers to shape the sound.
